Gloop

We love a bit of messy play in our house. There is always cornflour or glitter stuck to the floor! Gloop is such a simple thing but we can spend an hour or more playing with it. The trick is adding things bit by bit!

To make Gloop simply take cornflour and add water and that is it! It then forms this strange consistency were it can go from liquid to solid and back again. Endlessly fascinating to me and the two little girls. Just make sure you don’t add too much water to begin with.

To extend the play I usually start off letting them play with the dry cornflour (you will need a whole box to do justice to a baking tray). The little girls then add water bit by bit. Don’t add too much as when it’s too runny it is not as much fun. We mess about with that for a bit using our hands or sometimes spoons. There is then ALWAYS a call for food colouring. Grace always chooses blue (her School team colour) and Kitty always chooses pink! They mix that in and then we get the animals out. Or sometimes the tea set.

A rather odd pink colour this time!

Enid Blyton Rating: 10 (We have done this countless times and it never gets boring. The little girls make up lovely stories and create gloopy worlds – if you have never tried it, have a go and you will be coming back to it again and again on those rainy days.)
